Pins and Needles
I tried acupuncture today. I’ve had some health issues of late that I won’t go into on here, but trust me when I say that I am in desperate need of something - anything - to cure me of these ills.
I guess the fact that I fell asleep in less than 15 minutes while lying on a table with needles in my hands, wrists, abdomen, knees, feet and ankles means I don’t have trouble relaxing.
I’ll keep you updated on this. Right now I am chillin’ out getting my chi on. Later on I’m going to skip my planned fartlek workout in favor of some yoga. Then I’m going to drink some herbal tea (Gotta get that damn VR6 out of my system before I get the Insight back tomorrow).

If someone sticks needles in my alter-ego puppet will I feel it?

Save the wasted $ on acupuncture for the next belt tensioner.
Well,
seeing as Western medicine’s answer to my problem was to put me on massive doses of synthetic hormones that made my symptoms 10 times worse, made me bleed uncontrollably for 11 days, and would have made me bleed continuously for the next 3-12 months, I think I am doing OK with the acupuncture. Do the math - 1 box of Tampax per week for 52 weeks plus enough Pamprin, Diurex, and Ibuprofen to last for the same duration of time in doses of 2-4 pills 3 times a day…I think the $40 a session I am spending on acupuncture all works out in the end. And seeing as my health insurance covers part of this, I figured it’s worth a try. I dare you to spend one day in my body when my hormone levels are fucked up and then see how much you really care about $$ for a belt tensioner.
Let me get this straight - there is a website somewhere that says that acupuncture doesn’t work. Wait! It’s on the web..then it must be true.
3000 years of documented success with Chinese medicine versus 30 years of Internet, of which maybe 10 years included the illustrious quackwatch.org…don’t waste my fucking time.
Kerry,
I’m just some douchebag on the internet, and I’m sorry if I came off wrong, but I’m terribly sorry that your treatment led to the adverse affects you suffered.
But on the other hand, acupuncture has not survived any double blind clinical trials, just like chiropractic medicine.
3000 years ago, people thought the earth was flat & was the center of the universe. I would hope that you’d recognize the vastly extended live spans we now enjoy have only come as a result of modern medicine. Always ask yourself if Chinese medicine was so great, why is the life span of a “westerner” so much longer than that of the average Chinese?
mxracer652,
Attempting to reduce a difference in lifespan to just western medicine is really rather disingenuous and also doesn’t disprove the hypothesis that other forms of treatment can have a beneficial effect. Your statement “acupuncture has not survived any double blind clinical trials” is also incomplete - it should be suffixed with “that I know of”. Similarly for chiropractic medicine. Stating something that is only known to the best of your knowledge as immutable fact is false logic.
Nobody is disputing that western medicine has, in many cases, a very positive and measurable effect on the health of people in general, but to state that the average Chinese citizen has a much lower lifespan than the average westerner, therefore Chinese medicine cannot be great is another form of false logic. Living conditions, access to proper nutrition and other factors all play a very large role in prolonging lifespan.
I could equally well state something like “there has been a huge increase in the number of autistic children in the west concomitant with the increase in vaccinations, therefore western medicine causes autism and therefore western medicine is bad”. We both know that that argument is specious at best, but it pretty much ranks at the same level with your statement about Chinese medicine.
Oh, and I still believe that the earth is flat.
the world is flat, I read it at: http://www.theworldisflat.com
And sticking needles in someone is its own reward.
What’s happening with the blog entries? I haven’t seen any new updates from you or Andy in weeks. Did you two run off to New Zealand or somewhere else?
Hope your starting to recover….
